History
In 2005, Ivy Queen partnered with José Guadalupe, co-founder of Perfect Image Records, to form Filtro Musik. The venture followed Guadalupe's departure from Perfect Image after its other co-founder Anthony Pérez launched The Roof Records. The name Filtro Musik, meaning "filter" in English, reflected Guadalupe's stated ability to select the best talent after fifteen years in the industry. Later that year, Univision Records signed the label to a licensing plan to promote Ivy Queen's fifth studio album Flashback (2005) to both Latin and non-Latin buyers, positioning the album in mainstream accounts that typically did not carry Latin product. Following the success of her 2007 album Sentimiento, which produced the Top 10 hit "Que Lloren" and received Platinum certification from the RIAA, the live album Ivy Queen 2008 World Tour LIVE! was distributed by Machete in 2008. Ivy Queen had previously been under a distribution deal with Univision Records, which was acquired by Machete's parent company Universal Music Latin Entertainment in 2008. Walter Kolm, president of Universal Music Latino and Machete, stated it was a privilege to have Ivy Queen on the roster, while Ivy Queen expressed pride in joining Machete Music.
