History

Maybach Music Group was launched in 2008 as a joint venture and imprint of Rick Ross's then-label, Def Jam Recordings. The label's first signings that year were the hip hop group Triple C's, which included Ross, Gunplay, Torch, and Young Breed, followed by singer Masspike Miles in November. Its first major album release was Ross's Deeper Than Rap in April 2009, with Triple C's debut Custom Cars & Cycles arriving later that October. In August 2009, dancehall singer Magazeen became the label's third act. Ross's fourth album, Teflon Don, was released in 2010, while a planned second Triple C's album, Color, Cut & Clarity, was scheduled but never released. In August 2010, Ross offered Pennsylvania rapper Wiz Khalifa a contract, but Khalifa was already signed to Atlantic Records. Records, though he remained signed as a solo act to Def Jam. That same month, Ross signed Washington D.C. rapper Wale and Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill, who became flagship artists. The compilation Self Made Vol.
