Conker's Quest (2010)

The cancelled platformer that became Conker's Bad Fur Day.

Conker's Quest (2010)

Conker's Quest was a 3D platformer presented by Rare at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in 1997, aimed at a young audience for the Nintendo 64. Later the same year, Conker's inclusion in Diddy Kong Racing for the Nintendo 64 was confirmed. In early 1998, Conker's Quest was renamed Twelve Tales: Conker 64. During development, Rare struggled with project management and oversaturation of Mario 64-style games. Realizing the game lacked uniqueness, they cancelled Conker 64 and restarted the project. Multiple delays led the press to believe Twelve Tales was quietly cancelled. In 2000, the project was retooled into Conker's Bad Fur Day with mature content.

In Their Own Story

The rain had stopped, but the puddles still held the shape of the world Conker used to know. He crouched on a mossy log, small enough now that the log looked like a bench. His tail twitched behind him—long, lanky, absurd for a squirrel this size. Somewhere up the trail, a Growth orb pulsed like a slow heartbeat, amber and warm. He could feel it pulling at him, a gravity that had nothing to do with physics. He hopped off the log, landed in the mud, and didn't care. The tail swung forward, caught a vine, and hauled him up into the canopy where the light came through in green-gold sheets. He was small. He was getting bigger. That was enough for today.
