Code Geass Codexery

C.C.

The immortal witch who gives Lelouch his Geass.

C.C. is the pseudonym of an immortal young woman whose real name is never revealed. Introduced as a captive test subject of the Holy Britannian Empire, she holds the power of the "Code" and can grant Geass to others, which she does for Lelouch Lamperouge. Sardonic, stubborn and mysterious, she becomes his ally and protector, at times piloting a Knightmare and leading the Black Knights for him.

Powers

She received the Code from a nun centuries before the series. Her own Geass once made anyone near her love her; the Code makes her immune to ageing and ordinary injury, and she has survived burning at the stake, the guillotine and an iron maiden. She can grant or cancel Geass, sense it in others, and project dark hallucinations on people close to her. What look like conversations with herself are telepathic talks, among them with Lelouch's dead mother Marianne.

Role in the story

Beyond backing Lelouch's rebellion, she helps him take down other Geass users who misuse their power, including her own former contractors, and supports the changes of regime that follow.

Look and voice

She has long lime-green hair and gold eyes. In the first season she mostly wears the white restraint suit Britannia kept her in, which an audio drama says reflects her feeling that she is not free; in the second she wears a modified Black Knights uniform. Yukana voices her in Japanese and Kate Higgins in English.

Popularity

She placed third for most popular female character in the 2006 Anime Grand Prix and first in each of the next two years.
