Mao

C.C.'s former contractor, driven mad by a mind-reading Geass.

Mao is a Chinese orphan who received Geass from C.C. at six. It lets him hear the surface thoughts of everyone within 500 metres, but from overuse it became permanent and spread to both eyes, and the never-ending flood of thoughts drove him insane.

He hides his eyes behind sunglasses and wears headphones that loop recordings of C.C. encouraging and thanking him, to drown out other people. Since he cannot read C.C.'s mind he finds peace with her, and this grows into a childish, obsessive love; he refuses to accept that she does not love him back. C.C. says she left him because he could not keep his side of their contract.
