Hikarizaka Private High School is the fictional school in the town of Hikarizaka where most of Clannad takes place. It stands at the top of a steep hill that students must climb every morning, a recurring symbol of the hardships Tomoya, Nagisa and the others face.

Background
A student's year shows in the colour of their badge and indoor shoes: green for first-years, orange or red for second-years and blue for third-years. The school has a new building for classes and an old one used mainly for the library and club rooms, where Fuko Ibuki and Kotomi Ichinose spend most of their time, plus a gym, a cafeteria whose bread counter is mobbed every lunchtime, and a courtyard. It offers sports scholarships, the reason Tomoya and Sunohara enrolled, and has a dormitory for scholarship students from elsewhere in Japan. Its biggest event is the Founder's Festival in May; the anime splits it into two festivals, while the visual novel has one.
