Background
The city is built on uneven ground, so getting around means climbing one small hill after another, like the one students climb to school every morning. Once small, it has grown over the years by building over the greenery around it, and Akio Furukawa believes this is the cause of Nagisa's illness, because of the close bond she shares with the town. At the end of the story the city's own efforts help bring Nagisa back, a sign that the town loves its people too. Its settings include the school and its dormitory, Tomoya's house, the Furukawa bakery, Kotomi's house, the Okazaki family apartment, the hospital and the shopping district. The city is modelled on Mizuho, Tokyo.
