Lore & Background

Three of the actors were nominated at the Primetime Emmy Awards: Jared Harris, Stellan Skarsgård and Emily Watson. The wins there went to the series itself and to its direction and writing.

Skarsgård took the award for Best Supporting Actor at the Golden Globe Awards, where the series was also named Best Miniseries or Television Film. Harris was named Best Actor at the BAFTA TV Awards, and the series won the award for best miniseries there.

Reader's Guide

The three awards bodies recognised different parts of the production. At the Primetime Emmy Awards the wins were for the series as a whole, its directing and its writing, while the Golden Globe Awards and the BAFTA TV Awards honoured the series and two of its actors.

The recognition came for a series that had begun with low expectations of viewership and a Monday night time slot.
