Stellan Skarsgård is the Swedish actor who plays Boris Shcherbina in the miniseries Chernobyl. Born on 13 June 1951, he is known for his work with the director Lars von Trier and for a long list of English-language film roles. For the part of Shcherbina he received a Golden Globe Award and a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award.

Skarsgård was born in Gothenburg and began acting early; by the age of 21 he already had considerable experience in film, television and on stage. His collaborations with von Trier include Breaking the Waves, Dancer in the Dark, Dogville, Melancholia and Nymphomaniac. His early English-language films include The Hunt for Red October, Good Will Hunting and Ronin.

He later appeared in the Pirates of the Caribbean films, Mamma Mia! and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, played Dr. Erik Selvig in five Marvel films beginning with Thor, and portrayed Baron Harkonnen in the two-part adaptation of Dune.
