Plot
An ancient prophecy is fulfilled when an Egyptian chamber is discovered ten thousand feet beneath Maine, setting off an electromagnetic pulse that activates Stonehenge and unleashes global shockwaves. The Aztec pyramids collapse, and the stones themselves become animated. A renegade radio host, a group of scientists, and a British commando team race to stop the same force that once created life on Earth from wiping it clean to begin a new era. Dr. Jacob Glaser, a former prodigy now dismissed as a conspiracy theorist, detects the first pulses from Stonehenge and joins forces with Dr. Kaycee Leeds and the reluctant British squad. Though they distrust him at first, the team accepts his theories about underground electromagnetic fields after massive volcanic eruptions in Java and at the Giza pyramid complex. They locate an ancient artifact capable of deactivating Stonehenge, stored in a museum, but Glaser’s colleague Joseph LeShem steals it. LeShem is building a cult to survive the apocalypse inside a temple that rises from the ground in Maine. Glaser retrieves the mechanism after British forces kill LeShem, but the military plans to nuke Stonehenge before he can use it. Glaser and Leeds persuade the military to let them return to Stonehenge with the device, but Leeds is hospitalized from injuries sustained in the fight with LeShem. In England, Glaser confronts John Trousdale, who has taken the artifact for LeShem’s cult. Glaser overpowers him and activates the device just as the nuclear bomb arrives, ending all seismic activity and vaporizing both the bomb and himself along with Trousdale. Later, Kaycee Leeds reads a newspaper that questions Glaser’s actions. She then launches her own conspiracy theory radio show.
