Format

Each episode begins with Sanders giving an opening statement and a verbal disclaimer, the exact wording of which changed over time. The show pits two teams of three contestants—a red team and a green team—against each other. For the first stunt, every contestant takes part individually, with the stunt chosen at random by Ed. In the second stunt, two members from each team, chosen by the opposing team, must attempt the stunt. How many team members compete in the final round, and whether they do so alone or together, depends on the stunt itself. If the first stunt is non-competitive, each contestant who succeeds adds £3,000 to their team’s pot; if it is competitive, the four contestants from any team with the fastest time earn their team £3,000. For the second stunt, any contestant who completes it banks their team £3,000. In the third and final stunt, the individual from any team, or the team itself, that finishes fastest banks £5,000 and wins the total prize money. For its third and final series, the show became Celebrity Fear Factor, with each team made up of three celebrities playing for charity.
