Format
Before each challenge, the participants explain the location, the task, and the consequence of failure. A microphone is placed on the cast member performing the prank, and hidden cameras capture the action in public areas such as parks, shopping centres, or stores. The criteria are the same for all jokers in a round. A joker who fails receives a Thumbs-Down. At the end of the episode, the joker with the most thumbs down undergoes a punishment that is more embarrassing, humiliating, disgusting, painful, or scary than the challenges. Punishments cannot be refused, or the joker is removed from the show.
Episodes
Before each challenge, a hidden camera and microphone are placed on the cast member performing the prank. Challenges occur in public locations such as a high street or store, with the same criteria for all four comedians. Two series aired on BBC Three in 2012 and 2014, featuring Paul McCaffrey, Joel Dommett, Marek Larwood, and Roisin Conaty. The third and final series starred Lee Griffiths, Matt Ralph, Paul Biggin, and David Moon, with Matt Edmondson providing the voiceover. Robert Gray, director of Yalli Productions, stated that the team had known each other for 12 years.
Reception
Impractical Jokers UK received generally negative reviews from critics and audiences, with the main criticism being its failure to capture the spirit and charisma of the original American series. VultureHound's Laura Zoe Fleming gave it a 1/5, describing the show as too forced and the jokes as not funny. She noted that the four jokers lacked the necessary chemistry, making the viewing experience cringey and less engaging than staring at a wall.
