Making and release

Filming occurred at Sheffield Arena in June 2023, the same venue that hosted the original series' 1995 live shows.[3] Applause Store, the ticket distributor, stated that "unprecedented demand" led to the venue reaching its 3,000 capacity early, causing some ticketholders to be denied entry.[4] The BBC renewed the show for a third series during the broadcast of the second series, with filming in summer 2025.[5] In July 2022, the BBC started discussions with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer about bringing back the show; Hungry Bear Media and MGM Television produced the revival.[6]

A fourth series was ordered the day after the third series started on 17 January 2026, with filming scheduled for July/August 2026.[5]

What the cited sources add

Baldwin also said the production team listened to feedback and were making changes to make the show "more exciting"[7] The BBC Media Centre reported that the second series saw the return of the event Atlaspheres and introduced a new event called Unleash.[8] A BBC spokesman stated that "due to the high-impact nature of the show it is not unusual for those competing to suffer injuries"[9][10]
