Hagoromo Otsutsuki

The Sage of Six Paths, son of Kaguya and creator of the Tailed Beasts.

Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki, known as the Sage of Six Paths, and his twin brother Hamura are the sons of Kaguya. Having inherited fragments of the Shinju's chakra in the womb, the brothers turned on their mother once they learned the truth about the utopia they were born into.

Lore & Background

After defeating Kaguya, who had become the Ten-Tails, Hagoromo became the first jinchūriki and used its chakra to found ninshu, which later grew into ninjutsu. He chose his younger son Asura over the gifted Indra as his heir, unaware that Black Zetsu was turning Indra against the family. With the last of his strength he created the Tailed Beasts and sealed the Ten-Tails' body in the moon. His spirit later watched over the reincarnations of his sons, down to Naruto and Sasuke, and during the Fourth Great Ninja War he gave them the power to defeat Kaguya.

Reader's Guide

In the Boruto anime, Kakashi finds a manuscript of the Sage of Six Paths in an observatory library, which says the Sage once suffered from the same unknown illness that later strikes Naruto.
