Rusty
The sporty red kelpie who is one of Bluey's closest friends.
He is an athletic, adventurous, and tenacious young boy who lives in the bush.[1] Among Bluey's circle, the Australian Kelpie named Rusty is particularly close to Jack Russell, and he is also a key friend of Bluey herself.[1] As an adult, Rusty's ambition to join the Australian national test cricket team is realized.[2]
Making and release
Rusty was originally the main character of the series.[2] His father is in the army.[2] Joe Brumm decided to make Bluey the central character instead.[3] Rusty's family includes an older brother named Digger and a younger sister called Dusty.[2]
In addition to Jack, Rusty counts Bluey, Mackenzie, Lucky, and Indy among his good friends.[2] Rusty is often seen as a male equivalent to Bluey, with a similar look and many of the same character qualities.[1]
