Mars is the off-world colony of Philip K. Dick's novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?. The Nexus-6 androids Rick Deckard is sent to retire have recently escaped from there and travelled to Earth.

In the novel Roy Baty leads the androids who killed their human owners to escape a life of slavery on Mars. People on Earth are encouraged to emigrate to the colonies because of the radiation, with a free android as the incentive. K. W. Jeter's sequel novels return to the planet: in Blade Runner 3: Replicant Night Deckard lives on Mars as a consultant to a film crew telling the story of his blade runner days, and Sarah Tyrell lives in the colony too.
