Nexus-9 Replicant Body

Wallace's replicants, built so that they cannot disobey.

The Nexus-9 is the replicant line Niander Wallace designed in 2036. Like the Nexus-8 it has an open-ended lifespan, but its genetic programming leaves it unable to resist an order given by a human, even an order to kill itself.

Lore & Background

In the short film 2036: Nexus Dawn Wallace brings a newly made Nexus-9 before lawmakers: told to choose between Wallace's life and his own, the replicant cuts his own throat. That obedience, together with Wallace's answer to a global food crisis, got the ban on replicant production lifted. Artificial memories are implanted to keep the models mentally stable, and the replicants know the memories are not their own.

Reader's Guide

By 2049 Nexus-9 replicants are in use across Earth and the off-world colonies. Some serve the LAPD as blade runners hunting older models: Officer K is one of them, and Wallace's assistant Luv is a Nexus-9 as well.
