Joi Hologram Projector

The device that lets Joi leave the apartment.

Joi is an artificial intelligence projected as a hologram, designed and sold by the Wallace Corporation as a fully customizable live-in companion. At the beginning of Blade Runner 2049 K gets her a mobile emanator, a control unit and hologram projector he can carry in his coat, so that she can go wherever he goes.

Lore & Background

Even with the emanator Joi stays intangible: she cannot touch her surroundings, apart from lighting K's cigarette and syncing her image with the body of the replicant Mariette. When Luv crushes the emanator in Las Vegas, K's copy of Joi is destroyed with it. Later a giant advertising hologram of Joi with factory settings speaks to him, with none of his own copy's memories.
