Calpheon-Valencia War
Plague, Black Stones and a desert that swallowed an army.
The Calpheon-Valencia War is the long conflict at the root of Black Desert's politics. It followed the Black Death, a plague blamed on merchants travelling between Valencia and the desert, and pitted a Calpheon-led alliance of the western kingdoms against the Kingdom of Valencia. The alliance invaded the desert again and again but never reached Valencia Castle.

Background
After the plague killed more than half the people in parts of the west, Elionian priests accused Valencia of misusing black crystals in alchemy, and the kings argued the Black Desert had to be taken to prevent another disaster. Mediah's King Bareeds II stayed out of the fighting but let Calpheon's armies cross his land, while Neruda Shen's merchants supplied them and took payment in Black Stones, which Mediah's forges put to far better use. Valencia's King Imur Nesser, first blamed for the plague, came to be remembered as the king who humbled the alliance.
The final expedition, two years in the making, was buried by a huge sandstorm; Imur named the site the Red Desert. Later Calpheon's young king Guy Seric launched the Road to Serendia campaign, took Keplan, captured King Crucio Domongatt of Heidel and seized Serendia's black crystals, but his death in 281 ended plans for a second war on Valencia.
