Urbig was born in Euskirchen, North Rhine-Westphalia. He joined 1. FC Köln's youth academy in 2012 after a try-out. He had loan spells at Jahn Regensburg and Greuther Fürth before signing for Bayern Munich in January 2025. He made his Champions League debut on 5 March 2025 against Bayer Leverkusen, keeping a clean sheet in a 3–0 win. He also started the second leg on 11 March 2025, a 2–0 away victory over Bayer Leverkusen.

Urbig is a goalkeeper. He made his professional debut in a 2–0 loss to Darmstadt 98. He has represented Germany at youth levels from U17 to U21. He received his first senior call-up in March 2026 but withdrew due to a knee injury and did not make the final 2026 World Cup squad.
