Élan Chalon

Élan Sportif Chalonnais, better known as Élan Chalon, is a French professional basketball club from Chalon-sur-Saône. It competes in the LNB Élite, the top division of French basketball. The team plays its home games at Le Colisée, a 4,540-seat arena, and wears red and white. Its mascot is a moose.

The club was founded in 1927 and originally played in the lower-tier Pro C. Its first domestic league title came in the 2009–10 season, when it defeated Le Mans in the final. A second league championship followed in 2012. On the European stage, Élan Chalon has reached the final in three separate FIBA competitions, though it has never won one.

The current club emerged from a 1955 merger between Association Sportive Chalonnaise and Élan de Saint-Jean des Vignes. In 1970, it merged again, this time with the football club Bourgneuf Val d'Or Mercurey. Élan Chalon turned fully professional in 1994.

The 2011–12 season saw the team win its first French league title, beating Le Mans Sarthe Basket 95–76 in the final. Billy Ouattara scored 24 points and Clint Capela added 22. The following season, the club made its debut in the Euroleague, finishing the regular season with 3 wins and 7 losses.

In 2016, Chalon hosted the FIBA Europe Cup Final Four at Le Colisée and took third place by defeating Russian side Enisey. The next season, it reached the final of the same competition but lost to fellow French club Nanterre 92 in a two-legged tie. That same 2016–17 season, Élan Chalon also won its second French league title, beating SIG Strasbourg 3–2 in the finals.

Honours include two French League titles (2011–12, 2016–17), two French Cups (2011, 2012), one Leaders Cup (2012), and three runner-up finishes in the French Super Cup (2011, 2012, 2017). In European play, the club has been runner-up in the FIBA Saporta Cup (2000–01), the FIBA EuroChallenge (2011–12), and the FIBA Europe Cup (2016–17), with a third-place finish in the Europe Cup in 2015–16.
