Ed Reed Leaves in Free Agency (2013)
March 22, 2013: after eleven seasons, Reed signs with the Texans.
Ed Reed's contract with the Baltimore Ravens expired at the end of the 2012 season and he became a free agent. He had considered retiring, but said after the Super Bowl XLVII win that he intended to keep playing in 2013, and on March 22, 2013, he signed a three-year, 15 million dollar contract, 5 million guaranteed, with the Houston Texans.

Reed had hip surgery later that offseason to repair a small labral tear and made his Texans debut on September 22, 2013, against the Ravens in Baltimore. His playing time shrank as the season went on and he lost his starting job to Shiloh Keo in Week 9 against Indianapolis. He left Baltimore with 14 career touchdowns for the Ravens, and was later inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2019.
