Avatar Program

Hybrid Na'vi bodies, remotely operated by human scientists to walk among the Na'vi.

The Avatar Program is the human project on Pandora in which operators remotely control avatars, hybrid bodies grown from human and Na'vi DNA, to explore the moon and interact with the Na'vi. Each avatar is genetically matched with its human operator, who is mind-linked to it from a link-bed. In Avatar (2009) the program is headed by the exobiologist Dr. Grace Augustine, and Jake Sully joins it to replace his dead twin brother.

Lore & Background

Jake Sully's identical twin had been training as an avatar operator; after his death Jake is recruited in his place, and Grace Augustine accepts him while considering him an inadequate replacement. Norm Spellman and Max Patel work in the program, and the combat pilot Trudy Chacón is assigned to support it. With the Tree of Souls as a catalyst, Eywa can transfer a human mind permanently into an avatar, which succeeds for Jake at the end of the first film.
