Fake Prophet is a Chilean avant-garde metal band from Santiago. It was started in 2005 by vocalist-guitarist José Albornoz and bassist Fernando Gonzalez, initially under the name Death's Tears. The band changed its name to Fake Prophet in 2006 and wrote songs for a first album, *Lágrimas de la Muerte*, which was later canceled. Guitarist Álvaro Pesce and drummer Fernando Macías joined in 2007, but both left soon after, replaced by guitarist Javier Tapia and drummer Paulo Muñoz. The band then set aside the earlier album project to begin a new phase.
In 2012, with sound engineer Sebastián Pinilla, Fake Prophet recorded and released its first album, *Lejos del Hombre*, on February 27. The album received airplay on national stations Radio SONAR and Radio UNO. That year, the band won first place in the Emerging Bands category of the sixth Festival Escudo (now Santiago Gets Louders). After this, Álvaro Pesce rejoined the band, this time playing saxophone and synthesizer.
Winning the festival led to recording a second album at Estudios Rockaxis with engineer Eugenio Marin, alongside Estudio El Profeta and Sebastián Pinilla. That album, *Tractat de un Sannyas*, came out on August 27, 2013. On December 29, 2013, the band released a live bootleg titled *Fin del Registro*, which hinted at a possible breakup. Despite this, in late January 2014, Fake Prophet recorded a third studio album, *Sordos*, at Estudio El Profeta, releasing it on May 5 of that year.
Current members are José Albornoz (vocals, guitar), Fernando González (bass), Álvaro Pesce (vocals, alto saxophone, synthesizer, guitar), Javier Tapia (guitar), and Paulo Muñoz (drums). The only former member is drummer Fernando Macías (2007–2008). The band’s studio albums are *Lejos del Hombre* (2012), *Tractat de un Sannyas* (2013), and *Sordos* (2014), plus the live album *Fin del Registro* (2013).
