Dakrya was formed in late 2004 by Sophia Charalampous in Athens, Greece, with the aim of creating a theatrical metal sound. After many rehearsals and line-up changes, the band released their first demo, Without Destination, in mid-2005, featuring guest vocalists Margina and Costas Lazarou. Positive reviews led to Christina Kalantzi and Thina Chat joining as lead singers, and the band performed many live shows in Greece while working on new material.

In 2007, Dakrya entered the studio to record their debut album Monumento, released on May 23, 2008, by Another Sphere Records and 279 Productions. After opening for Moonspell at Thessaloniki's Principal Club Theater in early 2009, the band weathered a temporary departure by guitarist and backing vocalist George Droulias, filling the gap with session players before Angelos Charogiannis joined in late 2009 and Droulias eventually returned. The real breakthrough came in March 2010, when the group traveled to Sweden to record their second concept album alongside producers Pelle Saether, known for his work with Diablo Swing Orchestra and Madder Mortem, and Goran Finnberg, whose credits include Dark Tranquillity, Opeth, and Arch Enemy. A CD-single, The Urban Tribe, dropped on May 23, 2010, serving as a taste of what was to come. By July, Dakrya had secured a worldwide management deal with Intromental Management & Booking Agency and a recording contract with Sensory Records. Crime Scene was released globally on October 12, 2010, and the press response was overwhelmingly positive, confirming that the band had successfully translated its theatrical vision onto an international stage.

Shifting Lineups & the Live Circuit

Dakrya's history is marked by a degree of personnel fluidity that reflects both the demands of a theatrical project and the natural evolution of a band finding its voice. Drummer Charis Kampitsis served from 2005 to 2007, while vocalist Christina Kalantzi remained a fixture from 2005 until 2012. Guitarist Angelos Charogiannis occupied the seat from 2009 through 2011. In the 2012–2013 period, both Charogiannis and Kalantzi were succeeded by guitarist John Kefallinos and vocalist Mike Karasoulis, reshaping the group's sonic palette. The current roster features Thina Chat and Karasoulis on vocals, George Droulias on guitars and backing vocals, Giannis Kefallinos on guitars, SophiaX on keyboards, Alex Drakos on bass, and Stavros Vorissis on drums. Beyond the studio, the band maintained a steady live presence, performing at events such as the Voices of the Mist Festival volume 2 and contributing to the Femme Metal Records compilation Demonic and Divine in June 2009, ensuring their theatrical-metal identity reached audiences across the European underground.
