Derby de Sevilla

Lore & Background

Atletí's soul was forged in the working-class heat of the Atocha district, fueling an enduring war against the capital's aristocratic giant, Real Madrid. You won't find a 'Sevilla' chapter in this story; Andalusia has its own blue-and-white versus green-and-white saga. Atlético's heart beats loudest on national stages or inside our own walls—the Metropolitano and the old Calderón—where titles are seized and legends made.

Reader's Guide

Let's clear up a common confusion: Atlético Madrid does not have a 'Sevilla Derby.' We are based in the capital, and our rivalry map is drawn strictly within Madrid and Spain. The true 'Derby de Sevilla' belongs to Sevilla FC and Real Betis Balompié. It is one of Andalusia's most intense fixtures, fueled by deep cultural roots that have nothing to do with Atlético's history. Atlético's defining rivalries are: 1. The Madrid Derby (vs Real Madrid): The oldest local clash, dating back to 1903, defined by class divisions and the fight for control of the capital. 2. The National Rivalry (vs FC Barcelona): A historic contest for La Liga supremacy that has shaped decades of Spanish football.

• Seville and Betis share a unique Andalusian bond that predates modern La Liga structures.
• Atlético has never hosted a 'derby' match against a Seville club due to geographic distance.
