Lore & Background

Aston Villa is one of the oldest and most successful clubs in England, having won the Football League First Division seven times, the FA Cup seven times, the League Cup five times, as well as the European Cup and European Super Cup once. The club was a pioneer of the modern passing game, introduced by Scotsman George Ramsay, who was appointed as the world's first professional football manager in 1886. Villa director William McGregor founded the world's first Football League in 1888.

In Their Own Story

The rain slicked the terraces as the floodlights hummed to life over the Holte End. In the One Call Stand, the air was thick with anticipation and the scent of wet wool and flares. A single drum beat cut through the pre-match chatter, instantly silencing the crowd. Then, a lone voice rose from the front row, launching into the first line of 'The Lions Sleep No More.' Within seconds, thousands joined in, their voices swelling into a wall of sound that seemed to vibrate the very grass beneath the players' boots. As the team emerged from the tunnel, the roar was deafening, a living testament to generations of Villa fans who have stood together through triumph and heartbreak.

Reader's Guide

Villa Park has been the club's home ground since 1897. The traditional kit colours are claret shirts with sky blue sleeves, white shorts and sky blue socks. The club badge features a rampant lion.
