Oripathy
Individuals with Oripathy are known as the Infected.[1] Multiple Originium Infection Syndrome, also referred to as Stone Disease or Oripathy, is an incurable and worsening condition that results from extended or immediate interaction with Originium.[1] The disease involves abnormal assimilation between body cells and active Originium, where crystals replace normal cells and spread through the body.[2]
Transmission
Transmission occurs only through direct contact with active Originium shards, such as from catastrophes, mining, industrial pollution, or contact with a disintegrating Infected corpse.[3] Person-to-person transmission is very unlikely, but Oripathy can be transmitted via blood transfusion, congenitally from Infected parents, or through needle sharing.[3]
Diagnosis
Diagnosis is performed using angiography, invented in the 1040s, which detects blurry outlines around internal organs and blood vessels under specific electromagnetic radiation.[4]
Stages
Oripathy is staged by Cell-Originium Assimilation percentage and Blood Originium-Crystal Density (BOCD) in u/L, with Stage I below 0.30 u/L, Stage II between 0.30 and 0.50 u/L, and Stage III above 0.50 u/L.[5]
Treatment
There is no known cure for Oripathy, though Rhodes Island uses a suppressant that stimulates cell regeneration and halts further assimilation in active cases.[6]
Body disposal
Infected corpses are highly contagious and must be disposed of using special machines that cremate or freeze-dry non-assimilated parts and grind the remaining shards for burial.[7]
Infection monitor
Rhodes Island installs an infection monitor on every operator to track medical condition and limit excessive Arts use.[8]
Social effects
The Infected face widespread discrimination and persecution, often politically motivated, with extreme examples in Ursus (forced labor) and Leithanien (euthanasia).[9] Rhodes Island seeks a moderate approach to help the Infected, while Reunion adopts violent retribution against non-Infected society.[9]
