History
All Elite Wrestling's flagship program Dynamite premiered on TNT on October 2, 2019, with four dark matches—two before and two after the live broadcast. A program called Dark, debuting on AEW's YouTube channel on October 8, 2019, showcased these matches, which were part of AEW's storylines and counted toward wrestlers' match statistics, unlike typical dark matches. On February 24, 2021, AEW announced a spinoff titled AEW Dark: Elevation, set to premiere on Monday, March 15, at 7pm Eastern Time on YouTube.
The third weekly program was described as featuring established and rising AEW stars along with top wrestlers from the independent circuit, maintaining storyline continuity and match statistics. Wrestling veteran Paul Wight, formerly known as the Big Show in WWE, was announced as a commentator alongside Tony Schiavone, though this later changed to Matt Menard. With the premiere of Rampage on August 13, 2021, AEW President and CEO Tony Khan said Dynamite and Rampage would be AEW's core properties, while their YouTube shows, Dark and Elevation, would be peripheral properties—essentially developmental shows.
Elevation aired its last episode on April 24, 2023. Both it and Dark were canceled in preparation for the addition of Collision, which premiered on TNT in June 2023, due to an amended deal with Warner Bros. Discovery requiring all AEW programs to air exclusively on WBD channels. It was reported that Rampage would begin showcasing younger wrestlers, effectively taking over the role of Dark and Elevation. In a July 2025 interview with Iridian Fierro, Khan stated he was open to bringing back Dark and/or Elevation but that it would have to align with AEW's media strategy and television partnerships, and the ultimate decision was with Warner Bros. Discovery.
