Premise

Jack, a puppet who loves music, hangs out with his best friend Mary and his dog Mel, who plays the drums. Their adventures happen in a backyard clubhouse, where every episode revolves around making music. The show kicks off when Jack’s mom, who is never seen, calls him to remind him of an upcoming activity. Most episodes include two music videos from children's artists and a performance by the Schwartzman Quartet tied to that day’s theme. A big finale song wraps things up. Sometimes Jack tells his mom what they did; other times they keep playing. Mel pops up during the credits.

Characters

The core cast of Jack's Big Music Show includes Jack, Mary, Mel, and the Schwartzman Quartet. Jack, a blue mouse-like creature voiced by David Rudman, is a young guitarist who keeps a backyard clubhouse packed with instruments. His unseen mother announces a new class or activity for him at the start of each episode, reflecting his packed schedule. His name honors Jack Benny, the host of The Jack Benny Program.

Mary, Jack's best friend, is a yellow mouse-like creature performed by Alice Dinnean. She plays the accordion, is sharp and observant, and enjoys discovering music in everyday places. She ends every episode with her catchphrase, "What a day!" Her name comes from Mary Livingstone of The Jack Benny Program.

Mel, performed by John Kennedy, is Jack's pink and green dog. He serves as the drummer and a clever inventor, having built all the gadgets in the clubhouse, including the music video player, which he operates each episode. Though he only communicates through barks, Jack understands him perfectly. Mel is named after Mel Blanc from The Jack Benny Program.

The Schwartzman Quartet, voiced by various puppeteers, are four nearly identical turquoise mouse-like brothers with stringy red hair, freckles, and matching striped sweaters. They appear as a barbershop quartet in every episode to sing a short song, and they are named after the Sportsmen Quartet from The Jack Benny Program. Recurring characters include Earl the Squirrel, the Little Bad Wolf, the Bongo Birds, the Bugs, Henry the Monster, the Squirrels, M.C. Turtle, Sheldon the Squirrel, Gertrude the Groundhog, and Scat Cat.
