Production

Simultaneously, Muppet fan Adam F. Goldberg and partner Jeff Yorkes began their own project on the characters, interested because the band's lack of popularity allowed creative freedom. Yorkes initially pitched the idea as a feature film, but Goldberg suggested a series. The three combined their ideas. The decision to focus on the band came from the success of music videos on the Muppets' YouTube channel.

The series was greenlit shortly before its announcement after finalizing deals with Muppet performers. Goldberg and Barretta executive-produced alongside Michael Bostick, Kris Eber, David Lightbody, and Leigh Slaughter; Yorkes was co-executive-producer. Writers included Julie Bean, Hannah Friedman, Crystal Shaw, Hans Rodionoff, Gabrielle Rodriguez, and Danielle Maransky. Executive producer Kris Eber stated the filmmakers approached the series like a 5-hour feature film.

The series explores the Electric Mayhem's backstory, not depicted before; writers worked closely with Muppet performers to stay faithful to the characters.

Reception

Rotten Tomatoes reported an 86% approval rating based on 28 reviews, with an average rating of 7.2/10 and a critics consensus calling it a solid addition to the franchise.

Potential future projects

Goldberg wanted to build a "Muppetverse" like Marvel or Star Wars, first focusing on the band before expanding and adding new Muppet characters. After the show ended, Goldberg posted online that those plans were still moving forward.
