Making and release

The Dillinger Escape Plan's first live performance was as a support act for Overcast, organized by friend Matt Backerman who then asked the band to record their self-titled six-track EP for his label Now or Never records.[4] Relapse Records offered the band a multi-record contract based on their first demo and post-tour reputation.[1] The band's second EP, Under the Running Board, was released on October 22, 1998, as their first release for Relapse.[1] Their fifth studio album One of Us Is the Killer was released on May 14, 2013, through Weinman's label Party Smasher Inc. in partnership with various labels worldwide.[5][6]

Mike Patton, the Faith No More vocalist who was among the earliest listeners of the album, extended an invitation for the band to join Mr. Bungle on a two-month tour.[7] Founding vocalist Dimitri Minakakis left the band in 2001 to concentrate on art and design.[1]

What the cited sources add

The Exclaim! article notes that Pennie and Weinman wrote the vast majority of Dillinger's early material collaboratively and referred to each other as "musical soul-mates".[1] The Blabbermouth article states that Party Smasher Inc. first emerged in 2009 and its first release was Option Paralysis, produced in partnership with Season of Mist in France.[6] The MusicRadar interview quotes Weinman saying he had become "desensitised to extreme music" and started searching different places for inspiration because there weren't new bands pushing anything new.[8] The Blabbermouth reunion announcement confirms the band will play Calculating Infinity in its entirety for the first time with original vocalist Dimitri Minakakis at the Brooklyn Paramount on June 21, 2024.[9]

According to the Exclaim! article, bassist Adam Doll was in a minor fender-bender just before the recording of Calculating Infinity began; Wikipedia adds that this accident left him paralyzed from the chest down.[1][10]
