Making and release
The band originally called themselves Hug the Retard but changed the name before any release.[1] Their first release, Erotic Massage, was funded by a loan co-signed by drummer John Ensminger's father and released independently in 1997.[3] In 2000 the band played on USA Network's FarmClub, which led to a signing with Spitfire Records.[4] Their major-label debut Anarchists of Good Taste was released in 2001 and featured Serj Tankian on the track "Mushroom Cult".[5]
The band announced their breakup on December 5, 2006, and played a farewell show on January 13, 2007.[6] 1998 saw the release of the band's second independent album, Experiments in Alchemy, which contained a greater number of heavy metal tracks.[7] From that point onward, Derek J. Brewer handled the band's management, a role he held until the group ceased operations.[7] Jeff Siegel took over keyboard duties from Sennen Quigley when he joined the lineup near the end of 1998.[8]
A music video for "Leper Friend" was the band's first, and they also went on a tour of the UK.[5] Following a break in 2005, DFD became part of the Rotten Records roster and issued Adultery on April 4, 2006.[9]
What the cited sources add
The same interview described the band's music as having variety and musical contrast.[10] Smith also said that having "disco" in the name sometimes caused the band to be perceived as a disco band.[11]
