History
Audiotopsy formed in 2015 after Greg Tribbett left Hellyeah with bassist Bob "Zilla" Kahaka. Their debut album Natural Causes was released on October 2, 2015, via Napalm Records, self-produced and engineered by Tim Laud. The tracks "Headshot" and "The Calling" premiered on Loudwire and Revolver respectively. Recording for a second album began in September 2017. The Real Now was released on November 2 via Megaforce Records, with singles "What Am I" (September 7, 2018) and "War" (October 11, 2018). In 2021, Tribbett and McDonough left following Mudvayne's reformation; James Vinson and Trevor Bodkins replaced them.
Musical style
Critics have labeled Audiotopsy as alternative metal, nu metal, and post-grunge, though frontman Billy Tribbett prefers the term 'progressive hard rock,' a description not universally accepted. Ghost Cult Magazine observed that the band's album Natural Causes lacks the off-kilter rhythms of Mudvayne, with only 'Distorted' and 'Darken the Rainbow' hinting at that earlier sound, more akin to Lost and Found than L.D. 50.
