The capocannoniere award goes to the highest goalscorer of each Serie A season. It is presented by the Italian Footballers' Association (AIC) and has been known as the Paolo Rossi Award since 2021.

Milan's Gunnar Nordahl won the title five times, in 1949-50, 1950-51, 1952-53, 1953-54 and 1954-55, more than any other player in the history of the Italian championship. Marco van Basten was capocannoniere for Milan in 1989-90 and 1991-92, and Pierino Prati was Serie A's top scorer in 1967-68, the season Milan won the Scudetto.
