Release and reception
In July 1985, UB40 put out Little Baggariddim as they kicked off a tour across the US and Canada. This EP holds six songs; four of them turned up the following September on the group’s sixth studio album, Baggariddim, though that release was limited to outside North America. Also included are a faster, reworked take on “One in Ten,” which first appeared on their 1981 album Present Arms, and a dub version of “I Got You Babe.” Rolling Stone’s Rob Tannenbaum felt the record came together brilliantly and predicted it would rank among the best EPs of 1985.
Writing for Spin, Steve Matteo liked the simple, affordable packaging and said the EP let UB40 stick to their principles while chasing more recognition; he noted the songs cross into various styles, though he hoped early fans and reggae purists wouldn’t be put off by the pop leanings. Billboard thought “I Got You Babe” could help the band break through in the States, adding that both that track and its companions stick to the band’s updated but faithful reggae sound.
