Critical reception
Music & Media selected April Moon as its Album of the Week, describing it as a confident step into artistic maturity with strong soul-rooted pop songs and sophisticated arrangements. Russ Hudson of Record Mirror, however, found the album directionless and melodramatic, arguing that the wide range of musicians created a lack of continuity and that Brown's vocals deserved more energetic material. The Canberra Times noted that Brown had refined her vocal control since her debut, delivering a set of melodious tracks that were easy on the ears, though not world-shattering.
