As the Band Turns is the sixth album by R&B band Atlantic Starr, released April 15, 1985, on A&M Records. It introduced new vocalist Barbara Weathers after the departure of initial lead singer Sharon Bryant and four other members. The album yielded several R&B hits, including the quiet storm anthem "Secret Lovers," and was the band's last release for A&M.

Production
David Lewis, Wayne Lewis, and Jonathan Lewis produced tracks 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, and 9, with Jonathan Lewis serving as associate producer. Joey Gallo and Wardell Potts Jr. produced tracks 2, 4, and 7. Fred Law engineered tracks 1, 3, and 9, served as mix assistant on tracks 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, and 9, and provided additional engineering on tracks 5, 6, and 8. Calvin Harris contributed as additional engineer on tracks 1, 3, and 9, produced and engineered track 5, and mixed that track. Kevin Reach engineered and mixed tracks 2, 4, and 7. Rory Young engineered tracks 6 and 8. Bill Bottrell mixed tracks 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, and 9. John McClain mixed tracks 1 and 9. Jim Shifflett mixed tracks 2, 4, and 7. Phil Walters served as mix assistant on track 5 and additional engineer on tracks 6 and 8. Ray Bardani was additional engineer on tracks 1, 3, 5, and 9. Assistant engineers included Bino Espinoza, Iris Cohen, Michael Dotson, Elmer Flores, Rhys Moody, Karen Siegel, Marcus Williams, Ralph Sutton, and Tyrone Williams. Mastering was handled by Bernie Grundman. Art direction was by Chuck Beeson, with design and painting by Larry Vigon. Photography was by Mark Hanauer, and Cecil Parker served as stylist. Recording took place at Soundcastle, Devonshire Sound Studios, Artisan Sound Recorders, Hitsville U.S.A., Studio Masters, Calvin Harris Studio, Minot Sound, and Golden Apple Media. Mixing occurred at Hitsville U.S.A. and Studio Masters. Mastering was done at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood, California.
