Music
Bryan Adams and producer R.J. "Mutt" Lange wrote, recorded, and produced this album inside a Jamaican house in Ocho Rios between winter 1994 and summer 1995, then continued at two different houses in Provence, France, from autumn 1995 to spring 1996, using a remote recording truck. Bob Clearmountain mixed it in another Provence house in March 1996. Adams had already performed some tracks live, including "Let's Make a Night to Remember" during a 1993 soundcheck on the So Far So Good World Tour. By 1995 he had twelve songs ready but sensed the album was incomplete, so he went back to record two more: "The Only Thing" and "18 til I Die." He then gave the album its title.
Release
Bryan Adams’s 18 til I Die hit shelves in June 1996. In the U.S., it climbed to number 31 on the Billboard 200, where it stayed for three weeks, while back in Canada it landed at number 4. The album arrived in Australia, Europe, and New Zealand later that June. Across Europe, it was a huge commercial success, topping the UK Albums Chart—Adams’s second straight number one there—and cracking the top ten in the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Finland, Norway, Austria, Sweden, Germany, and Australia. It also made a modest top 20 showing in France. A second Australian edition dropped on November 4, 1996, swapping “You’re Still Beautiful to Me” for the duet “I Finally Found Someone” with Barbra Streisand, sporting a purple cover and a rearranged track list. The Japanese version included the bonus track “Hey Elvis.”
