The Terrible Thunderlizards
Dinosaur mercenaries fail to eliminate primitive humans.
Last updated
The Terrible Thunderlizards was a cartoon segment featured on Fox Kids in the U.S. and YTV in Canada as part of Eek! Stravaganza. Originally planned as a spin-off of Eek! The Cat, it was a co-production between Nelvana, Fox Kids, and Savage Studios Ltd. Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider wrote its theme song. Disney took ownership of the series in 2001 after acquiring Fox Kids Worldwide.
Plot
The series follows a trio of dinosaur mercenaries released from prison after being falsely accused of aiding an enemy Thuggosaur during wartime; they had actually found it injured. General Galapagos orders them to eliminate two primitive humans, as scientists foresee that humanity's proliferation will end dinosaur supremacy. Despite superior size and firepower, the mercenaries always fail comically, often using bee bombs that backfire. They succeed, however, in defending Jurassic City and completing dangerous missions, which may explain why they remain employed.
Characters
Doc Tari, or "Doc" (voiced by Savage Steve Holland), is a Parasaurolophus and the team's leader. His crest contains gadgets like a buzz-saw and grappling hook; he is the most focused member but can be unfocused. Doc parodies Arnold Schwarzenegger characters such as John Matrix from Commando, Dutch from Predator, and the Terminator. Day Z. Kutter, or "Kutter" (voiced by Bill Kopp), is a Styracosaurus and second-in-command, skilled with knives.
He often fools around with Squatt and needs Doc's help to focus. Bo Diddley Squatt, or "Squatt" (voiced by Jason Priestley in 1994-1996, Corey Feldman in 1996-1997), is an Allosaurus and the team's top sniper. He is dim-witted and clumsy, though occasionally competent, and often volunteers for dangerous situations. His catchphrase asks if something is a "bad thing," to which Kutter or Doc replies, "Yes Squatt, that would fit nicely into the bad things category!"
General Galapagos (voiced by Kurtwood Smith) is a Tyrannosaurus who bosses the Thunderlizards, frustrated by their failure to kill the humans. Dr. Steggy, a Stegosaurus scientist (voiced by Charlie Adler), works for Jurassic City Military and has a nephew, Huckleberry (voiced by Cam Clarke), who befriends the humans Bill and Scooter. Mr. T-Rex, voiced by Mr. T, is Galapagos's best soldier, a Tyrannosaurus parodying Mr. T's characters Clubber Lang and B. A. Baracus, often needing rescue due to his anger.
Nate the Dragon (voiced by Nathan Wang) is a Velociraptor stealth and martial arts expert using a Bo staff. El Gordo is a small Ceratosaurus camouflage expert who disappears by sticking a plant in his hat.
