Last updated

Student Bodies is a Canadian teen sitcom produced in Montreal from 1997 to 1999, blending live-action with animated segments that depict characters' thoughts and imaginations. Originally made for the American market and distributed by 20th Television, it aired on Fox affiliated stations and later on Global and YTV in Canada. Critics have described the series as an imitation of Saved by the Bell.

Characters

Cody Anthony Miller, played by Jamie Elman, is the protagonist and cartoonist for the high school newspaper Student Bodies, which competes with the official school paper the Student Voice led by Victor Kane (Miklos Perlus). In the first season, Cody and Victor are rivals, but later become friends when the Student Voice staff joins Student Bodies. Cody's cartoons frequently appear as his thoughts, scene transitions, and in the opening and closing sequences. His relationships with girlfriends Emily Roberts (Nicole Lyn), Grace Vasquez (Victoria Sanchez), Holly Benson (Katheryn Winnick), and Kim McCloud (Jennifer Finnigan) are depicted through his drawings.

Trivia

The show was produced in Montreal and later dubbed into French in France, airing in Quebec as Vice-Versa on Canal Famille. Its opening theme song and credits sequence changed after the first season to a pop rock style that remained for the rest of the series. Filming took place at a former primary school in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie, now an adult education centre.
