Kid-friendly horror stories with a lesson from the Cryptkeeper.

Last updated

Tales from the Cryptkeeper is an animated children's horror television series produced by Nelvana in Canada. It aired on ABC in the United States and on ITV in the United Kingdom, based on the EC Comics series and the concurrent live-action HBO show. The series was toned down for a younger audience, removing all blood, gore, profanity, and sexual content.

Plot

The series follows the Cryptkeeper telling milder horror stories to viewers, each containing a teachable lesson. In the second season, the Cryptkeeper contends with rivals the Vault-Keeper and the Old Witch, who try to take over his show but fail. The third season, New Tales from the Cryptkeeper, has the Cryptkeeper actively setting up situations to teach frightening lessons to children with serious character flaws.

Syndication

In North America, the series premiered on ABC and later aired on Teletoon and CBS. Fearnet ran reruns in August 2012 during their Funhouse block. Spanish-dubbed episodes aired on Telefutura as Cuentos de la Cripta from 2002 to 2005. Filmrise Kids began streaming the series daily in October 2021.
