Pavol Boriš
Slovak winemaker, author, and organizer of the Koncert mladosti festival.
Pavol "Paľo" Boriš, born 28 October 1954 in Šaľa, is a Slovak small-scale wine producer, author, and former high school teacher. He also organized both editions of the Koncert mladosti festival and served as its second main organizer. Additionally, he has been a chronicler of Pezinok’s 1960s music scene.
In the summer of 1947, his parents moved to a house in Neded. Boriš has lived in Pezinok since 1961, settling there permanently on 17 October 1962, and began attending elementary school on Fándlyho Street as a second-grade pupil. During the early 1970s, he met Ján Štrba on a train—Štrba was carrying a large reel-to-reel tape recorder—and they became friends. After graduating from electrical maturita in 1974, he studied mechanical engineering technology at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, SVŠT in Bratislava from 1976 to 1981. Following the ban of the Koncert mladosti festival, authorities summoned him for questioning as a co-organizer and punished him by prohibiting him from officially acting as cultural coordinator of the SZM local organization. His friend Ľubomír "Jačmeň" Janečka, who was a sideman in Boriš’s circle, took over that role. In fall 1982, he completed basic military service with the 65th Motor Rifle Regiment in Cheb.
Boriš was involved with the VPN. From 1989 to 2001, he taught mechanical engineering subjects at a secondary vocational school. He served on the Pezinok town council from 1990 to 1998. From its founding until 2005, he worked on the committee of the Zväz vinohradníkov a vinárov Pezinok. Around 2002 or 2003, he became chief and main organizer of the newly created event Fyzulnačka.
His vineyards lie in the Škridláky hunt area of the Pezinok wine district. With Peter Bittner and photographer Ján Štrba, he co-authored three books: the first edition of *Pezinok – bigbeatown* with a compilation CD (2001), *Koncerty mladosti ´76, ´77 – Československý Woodstock* (2007), and the second edition of *Pezinok – bigbeatown* (2024). Boriš and Bittner are also regarded as chroniclers of 1960s music in Pezinok.
In 1980, he married Edita. They have two children: Martin (born 1984) and Zuzana (born 1987).
His published works include *Moje zimné písačky* (2022). In 2023, he received the Award of the Mayor of Pezinok for an active life connected with cultural events and winemaking.
