Background
The rivalry grew more from the history of baseball in the two cities, about 40 miles apart, than from anything on the field. After the second Senators left for Texas, Orioles owner Peter Angelos fought any return of baseball to Washington, arguing that the Orioles' market had grown to include it, and he cast the only vote against the Expos' move in 2004. Since 2005 the two clubs have shared the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN), which carries both teams' games and is majority-owned by the Orioles, the only such arrangement in the majors, and the deal has been a long-running source of dispute.
