Bury Me, My Love

A visual novel about a Syrian couple separated by war.

Bury Me, My Love

Bury Me, My Love is a visual novel created by The Pixel Hunt and released by Arte France. It centers on Nour and Majd, a Syrian couple separated by the civil war, as Nour attempts to reach Europe. Players control Majd, choosing his text-message responses and offering guidance to Nour.

The game was built by French studio The Pixel Hunt alongside design studio Figs. Arte France first published it for Android and iOS on 25 October 2017. Playdius Entertainment later brought it to Nintendo Switch and Windows on 10 January 2019. A free prequel appeared on the game’s website on November 3. The project uses the interactive fiction language ink, developed by Inkle.

Pocket Gamer described the game as a “must-play” due to its emotional narrative, though it found the Switch version lacking. Polygon praised its “brilliant storytelling.” GameSpot noted it explores “uncharted territory” but considered replaying choices tedious. At the 2018 British Academy Games Awards, it earned nominations for Best Mobile Game and Game Beyond Entertainment. It was also nominated for Games for Impact at the 2017 Game Awards. The International Mobile Game Awards 2018 gave it the Best Meaningful Play award.
