Greg Adams

The 1994 overtime hero against Toronto who sent Vancouver to the Stanley Cup Final.

Gregory Daren "Gus" Adams, a Canadian winger, played in the NHL from 1984 to 2001. He played college hockey at Northern Arizona University, where he led the nation in scoring as a sophomore. Going undrafted, he signed with the New Jersey Devils in 1984. After three seasons, the Devils traded him and Kirk McLean to the Vancouver Canucks in 1987 for Patrik Sundstrom and a draft pick.

The arrival of a different Greg Adams on the Canucks led to him being called "Gus." He spent eight seasons in Vancouver, becoming a fan favorite. In the 1994 playoffs, he scored an overtime winner in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals against Toronto, sending the Canucks to the Stanley Cup Final, and then scored another overtime winner in Game 1 of that Final against the Rangers. Traded to the Dallas Stars during the 1994–95 season, he played four years there, followed by two with the Phoenix Coyotes and one final season with the Florida Panthers.

A reliable scorer, he topped 30 goals four times and 20 goals nine times, with two 70-point seasons. Injuries kept him from playing a full season more than once.
