Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia

Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia is an American animated fantasy television series created by Guillermo del Toro. It was produced by Netflix and distributed by DreamWorks Animation Television and Double Dare You Productions. The show is based on the 2015 novel *Trollhunters*, co-written by del Toro and Daniel Kraus. The story centers on James "Jim" Lake Jr., a teenage boy who discovers a mysterious amulet and uncovers a hidden world of trolls and other magical beings. Along with his friends, he takes on the responsibility of safeguarding his small suburban town from the dangerous creatures that hide in the shadows.

The first two episodes debuted at New York Comic Con on October 8, 2016. The first season was released globally on Netflix on December 23, 2016. The second season followed on December 15, 2017, and the third and final season premiered on May 25, 2018. The series was widely praised as ambitious and groundbreaking for animation. In 2017, it earned nine Daytime Emmy Award nominations and won more awards than any other animated or live-action program that year. Across its three seasons, it also received or was nominated for a BAFTA Award, several Annie Awards, Kidscreen Awards, Golden Reel Awards, and a Saturn Award. The show inspired original children's books and a series of graphic novels by Marc Guggenheim and Richard Hamilton, published by Dark Horse Comics.

Actor Anton Yelchin voiced Jim for the first two seasons, having recorded enough dialogue to complete them before his sudden death. He also provided a portion of the dialogue for the final season, with Emile Hirsch recording the remaining lines. Following the series' success, del Toro announced that *Trollhunters* would be the first chapter in a trilogy of shows collectively called *Tales of Arcadia*. The story continued with the science fiction series *3Below: Tales of Arcadia* and concluded with the fantasy series *Wizards: Tales of Arcadia*. The show also premiered on Pop in the UK on September 3, 2018. A full-length feature film, *Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans*, was released on July 21, 2021.
