The story centers on Ezekiel Zick, a boy with multiple allergies who can see monsters invisible to most people. With his best friend Elena Potato and his talking cat Timothy, Zick works to master his abilities and become a Monster Tamer like his father Zobedja.
Tamers are beings with special powers, each inheriting a unique energy called Dom from their parents. There are five types of Dom: Sight Dom (seeing monsters and ghosts), Voice Dom (commanding monsters to obey), Gesture Dom (controlling and capturing monsters in a DomBox), Enviro Dom (creating a protective force field), and Energy Dom (releasing energy beams).
Tamers also use various Dom Items. The Universal DomBox is a gun-like container that can capture any number of monsters. Zick’s sunglasses amplify his Energy Dom. The Dom Glove boosts a Tamer’s power as they capture monsters. Regular DomBoxes hold individual monsters, with different types for each creature. Tele-skates, given with a Green Gem, allow teleportation. The Dom Staff fires a strong energy beam. The Hypno-Disk alters or erases memories. The Crystallizator freezes monsters when a DomBox isn’t available. The Radio-Worm is a tracking wristband that screeches if removed. The Disco-Monster forces monsters to dance until exhausted. The Densifier changes the user’s density, making them heavy or intangible. The Scepter Dom (ZetaDom Stick) controls monsters at will but can turn the user into a monster if overused.
In Italy, the series premiered on Rai 2 on February 6, 2006. In France, it debuted on M6 (a co-producer) on October 18, 2006, as part of M6 Kid. In Germany, it started on KiKa on October 23, 2006. In the United States, it premiered on Kids' WB (on The CW) on September 23, 2006, with some scenes edited or cut for time and censorship, and episodes aired out of production order.
