Lore & Background
Total War: Warhammer blends turn-based kingdom management with real-time tactical battles. The campaign begins with Karl Franz as the newly elected Emperor of the Empire, tasked with uniting his fractured kingdom and bringing peace to the Old World. The game's narrative is shaped by conflicts among the Dwarfs, Greenskins, Vampire Counts, and the Chaos horde in the north. The campaign map spans from the Chaos wastes to the Greenskin-infested badlands, and from the Great Ocean to the World's Edge mountains. Four playable factions were available at launch: the Empire, Greenskins, Dwarfs, and Vampire Counts. The Chaos faction was offered as a pre-order bonus and later as downloadable content. The Bretonnians were added as a free faction in February 2017. Each faction has unique units and campaign mechanics, such as the Greenskins' 'Waaagh!' system. New features include flying units, magic, individual Lords with skill trees, agent participation in battles, and a quest mode for unlocking items.

GameSpot awarded 9.0/10, calling it 'the best the Total War series has ever been.' PC Gamer gave 86%, and Game Informer gave 8.75/10. The Guardian awarded four out of five stars.
