Space Hulk: Tactics
Turn-based tactics in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
Space Hulk: Tactics is a turn-based tactics video game from developer Cyanide and publisher Focus Home Interactive. It takes place in the Warhammer 40,000 setting and adapts the tabletop miniatures board game Space Hulk. It came out on 9 October 2018.
Players can choose from four Space Marine chapters—Blood Angels, Dark Angels, Space Wolves, and Ultramarines—or fight as their alien foes, the Genestealers, which also have four factions. The game includes two single-player campaigns: one following the Blood Angels and another from the Genestealers’ perspective. It also offers competitive PvP multiplayer and a skirmish mode. A map builder lets players design and share their own maps and scenarios. The gameplay is turn-based and incorporates deck-building elements, such as using cards to grant character bonuses or restore action points.
Reviews for Space Hulk: Tactics were mixed on Metacritic. Polygon’s Charlier Hall praised the customization options. Fraser Brown of Rock Paper Shotgun criticized the game’s pace and user interface, saying it “punishes even tiny mistakes.” IGN described it as “a wonderfully challenging, asymmetrical tactics game in spite of its poor PC controls.”
